Calling All Music Lovers: Discovering New Music with Pandora
Forget Yahoo. Pandora rules!
You often hear people say “I’m a music person”. Nine times out of ten, this is code for “I listen to top 40 all day long”. Since this post is about discovering new music and if you’re reading this, I can only assume that you are, in fact, a true music lover. Either that, or google had a brain fart, and you were actually looking for robot midget porn. Either way, you NEED to go to Pandora.com create some personalized stations (yes, “stations” with an ’s’).
It’s the geek factor that makes Pandora different
Most personalized radio stations base your stations content on your music ratings and the ratings of others who like similar music. In other words, it’s very subjective. And lets face it people, most people are drones when it comes to music. Pandora, on the other hand, is the result of something called the Music Genome Project. This was an effort to “capture the essence of music”.
Using sophistocated math, they break a song down into it’ base characteristics and each of these “genes” is given a rating. Once they have completely defined the song’s genome, then this genome can be directly compared with other songs. Therefore, the songs you are served up have a similar sound to the type of music you wish to listen to.
All you do to get started is enter either a band or song title to “seed” your first station. From there, you simply give each song a thumbs up or thumbs down. As you listen to songs, Pandora starts to find the pattern in the music genome that seems to float your boat and bases your next song on that pattern.

This is my Hold on Hope station. Wussy? Yes. But the music from Scrubs is thre friggin shizzle, fo rizzle, yo!
Oh, and did I mention that unlike Yahoo! Music (my former internet radio service) you can have as many stations as you’d like? Each station will be completely independent in the way it determines your next selection. This means that when you feel like listening to heavy music, you just pull up your Slipknot station. When you feel sad and feel like crying for a bit, queue up Ronald McDonald sings the Blues.
Hook it up, yo!
So what are you waiting for. Get your booty over to Pandora. *Arnold voice* Do it! Do it now!! When you’ve signed up and you’ve made a station that rocks your socks, you should go to your Share tab and leave me a link. Below are links to 5 of my stations. Enjoy!

- SeeqPod: Use the Internet as Your Personal Music Library Most of us are familiar with the way that internet radio works. For the most part, you listen to what you're served, and if you're just not feeling that song and you're out of skips, then response from the station is "you're GONNA listen and you're GONNA like it!" But sometimes, you just feel like listening to a particular band or maybe just a particular set of songs. Seeqpod to the rescue!...
