Easily Download Videos from Sites Like YouTube

March 14th, 2009

Have you ever come across some really cool videos on YouTube or some other YouTube-like site that you wished you could hold on to? Well, thanks to a tool called Video DownloadHeper, it can easily be done in one step.

Before you can use this tool, there are two simple requirements:

1) You must be using the Mozilla Firefox web browser. The plug-in that will allow you to download the videos is made strictly for Firefox. But I’m sure you’re already using it because you have, no doubt, already viewed this article by a super sexy author who will remain unnamed. (In case you didn’t catch that, I’m the super sexy author. You can continue reading after you’ve finished laughing.)

2) You must have a way to play it once you’ve downloaded. Windows Media player does not come with this ability standard. To remedy this, I recommend downloading and installing the free K-lite codec pack. Simply put, it will allow Media Player to play almost any and every video format under the sun. It comes in Basic, Standard, and Full. Basic should be more than enough for most people.

Once you have taken care of these two items, open up your Swiss Army browser (Firefox) and go to the Video DownloadHelper download page. Installing this gem is as simple as clicking the big green “Add to Firefox” button.

So now you’ve downloaded it. How do you use it?

Lets say you’re on YouTube and you just love seeing this guy get bitch-slapped and you want to download it for postarity. All you have to do look for the freaky spinning bubble logo thingy in your menu bar.

If there is content that Video DownloadHelper can access, it will appear in color. Otherwise it will be in black and white. Clicking the down arrow next to the logo will show all accessable options. Simply choose the one you wish to download.

Hope you find this plug in as helpful as I have. Enjoy those internet videos!

Question Oh MIghty Wizard of all things Technological…once downloaded, the codec pack asks all sorts of questions on what settings to use blah blah blah - clarification on what boxes to check/uncheck would be helpful!
